Welcome to Taraw Beach Cottages and Resort
Sabang Beach, Puerto Princesa City
Palawan – Philippines

Taraw is a good place to stay if you must be near the sandy beach. There are 12 rooms to choose from. One drawback of Taraw is that about 100 day trippers from The Legends Hotel have their lunches served by Taraw in the shelters between the cottages and the beach, so it gets a bit crowded around the middle of the day.

We stayed there for 1 night because we wanted to see the subterranean river. The resort is next to a very next and fancy resort that´s just on a slow opening at the moment. It´s called Sheridan. The Taraw cottages are all bamboo, there are no screens on the windows. Since the power is only until 11.00 at night and there is only a fan you really need to open the windows. You can definitely count on roaches in a places like this. Mosquito nets and towels are not standard, you have to ask for them (repeatedly). When we finally got the nets we had to put them on ourselves, which was quite difficult. We were sweating our a.... off. I got so angry that I wanted to change into the fancy resort next door, but after I calmed down and the nets where fixed, we stayed. I didn´t feel comfortable, but it was ok. We saw only two roaches crawling around so I guess they try to keep the place clean. For one night it´s ok and actually there is no reason to stay longer at Sabang Beach.

I got a package tour and one of the itineraries was the buffet lunch at Taraw Vista Lodge & Resto. It was an eat-all-you-can and the foods wre just so so delicious, especially the barbeque. I was so full. The staffs were so accommodating and the place is clean and refreshing beside the beach.

We partook of the buffet lunch here before proceeding to the underground river park. Food was ok and were served on chaffing dishes. There was not much variety but with the total look of the place, I did not expect much anyway. Besides, there were no other restaurants in the area and it was better to eat here than proceed to the underground river on an empty stomach. Price included a bottle of softdrinks. Since we didn't drink our softdrinks, we bought a big bottle of water for P45.

The view was very good though. The Sabang beach was nice but we were warned against swimming due to the strong undertows. Just waded through the powdery soft khaki-colored sand.

A local woman goes around selling tamilok, the local delicacy also known as wood worm. It is not actually a worm but a mollusk. Our group bought a small pack for 100pesos and tried it. It wasn't bad, tasted like oysters.

For the full review, visit our website, TheVacationAdvisors.

The cottages are small and run down. Our cottage had 2 single beds and one double bed. The mattress on the double bed was really old and bend out of shape. The small en-suite bathroom had a cold-shower and a toilet without the seat (but this is pretty common in this area). The only positive aspect of the cottages is the view of the ocean from their small windows, assuming you can secure a higher-priced cottage with a view.

The staff was not friendly. At one point we asked for an extra towel and they questioned why we needed a third towel instead of providing one. It was the lack of proper customer service that made us leave prematurely from this establishment.

I ate lunch at this beachside restaurant as part of a tour group who had visited the Puerto Princesa Underground River Park.

The long table was under a long nipa hut type arrangement overlooking the beach and sea. The napery was a little stained, but well secured against winds.

The waiter served a buffet of pork, chicken, fish and the local vegetable called 'kangkong' (local spinach) with rice.

The serving for nine people was generous and was topped up.

we are a group of 7 German motor bikers. We would like to make a bike tour at Palawan for some days. We saw some bike rentals placed there. Is there also a guide available who could travel with us showing us most interesting places ?

Hi DP! We’ll be visiting Puerto Princesa (PPS) in August this year and we would like to stay in Sabang. We’ll be arriving in PPS at around 5PM. I was already informed that the public means of transportation already left by the time that we landed in PPS. We were advised to rent a van instead, but I was thinking that it will be impractical for a three backpacker to hire a van.

Do you have any idea how much a van will cost from PPS-Sabang one-way?
Which is much better/cheaper, rent a van or stay overnight in the City of Puerto Princesa?

I’ll highly appreciate your reply. Thank you in advance. =]

Me and my friends really enjoyed this cave.. One of our most memorable places in palawan.. haha… Super fun talaga.. People should really come to the place so they can also help our kababayan there.. The “ATE” on the picture was our tour guide. She’s really nice and helpful on our way up… Will really miss the place.

may i just ask if its possible for us to have the underground tour NOT from the package that hotels offers to their guest? what i mean is can we just go to sabang on our own and then just do everything there, like the permits, boats etc etc. we will be going there on the 25th of feb. thanks!

My family truly enjoyed our valentine adventure in Sabang!!! Such marvelous place people should see. Guests should be brought here first before coming to Underground River. Your travel in Palawan would not be totally complete without visiting this place! Its equally enchanting and fascinating as the Underground River. The rock climbing was such a great fun!!!

Hi,

We are planning to stay in Sabang instead of just going there for a day tour when we visit Palawan by Feb. Your posting actually helps me decide that we should definitely stay a while in Sabang.
May i ask what restaurant are near the Robert’s Cottage? How much are the food?
Also are there stores there where we can get bottled water?

Many thanks,
MJ
